One of the more overlooked forms of Lost fanaticism is in the area of comedy. Over the years an array of videos, websites and memes have spawned with the common goal of deriving humour from the show. We'll be covering our selection of these treats in the form of this regular feature, 'For the lulz'.
Hippoz0r is a unique look at the world of hippos and often their spontaneous appearance on the show. The site, hosted on the Blogspot network , has many contributors and appeared fairly recently in comparison to other community websites, but is nonetheless—in our opinion—an original and funny treat.
We recently caught up with Hippoz0r creator and contributor bigsimpsin for a quick chat about the site, Lost and himself.
Q&A with Hippoz0r's bigsimpsin
Why hippos?
Hippos are the perfect animal. Hippoz0rz is not about hippos on Lost. It is a tribute.
When did you start watching the show?
I've been watching since the pilot. I remember thinking "daayyyyyyuuuuummmm this shit is crazy son" and I was hooked.
You were one of the first to call out that the statue was a hippo, but there have been some other... theories, to the contrary. Many people are adamant that the statue is in fact a crocodile. Thoughts?
Ssssshhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiitttttttttt. Crocodiles are punk-ass bitches, and so is anybody who thinks the statue is a crocodile.
If the statue was revealed to (unfortunately) not be a hippo, would you still hope that we'll get to see an actual hippo on the show next year?
I can't even begin to imagine the statue not being a hippo. But if it were not, I would definitely expect to see some kind of compensation.
What are your thoughts on some of the other animals on the show? The polar bears, wild boars and of course Vincent?
Vincent is probably my favourite character. The scene where he swims after the raft and Walt makes me cry every single time. And I think Polar Bear is a pretty cool guy. He lives on a tropical island and doesn't afraid of anything.
We love your work with hippoz0r, and you've been a member of the Lost-community in a number of forums (SpoilerTV moderator almost since it began) -- I'm sure everyone wants to know what we can expect to see from bigsimpsin as we go into season six?
I'll be bringin' the ruckus to the ladies like usual.
Other than Lost, I know you're a huge fan of The Wire, but I'm a little disappointed that we've never seen any hippo's in Baltimore--what's with that?
Baltimore is not the ideal environment for Hippos. They would not thrive there.
If there could be one hippo-related thing to do on our blog, what would it be?
