After his work on Lost and Alias, J.J. Abrams set focus on feature film work. The first film he directed was the third installment of the Mission: Impossible series starring Tom Cruise; a franchise that had began a decade prior to this, and what was considered primarily as a forgotten enterprise.
It was almost entirely down to J.J. to revitilise the series with the new installment; and it was exactly what he did.
A rarity in cinema, the third installment of MI:3 is considered superior to the previous two; and J.J. is now working on the fourth film in the series. If you haven't seen it, or had given up hope on the 'Mission: Impossible' series, then there's more than a few reasons for you to check this one out.
Things to look out for
Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt. Cruise's first cousin, William Mapother, also plays a character named Ethan on Lost
Keep an eye out for the Paik Heavy Industries logo on the side of a building Hunt infiltrates
Notable cast crossovers include Greg Grunberg (notorious for appearing in J.J. Abrams' work) who plays the Oceanic 815 pilot on Lost, and Tracy Maddendorf who plays Bonnie, co-occupant of The Looking Glass.
In the closing credits, an neat easter egg is left for Lost fans--something which people have come to expect from the various elements of the J.J. Abrams universe. Among those who are given special thanks is The Hanso Foundation.
